Can Hyperuricemia Be Prevented?

Apr 08, 2022

According to 2021 China Hyperuricemia and Gout Trend White Paper issued by CBNData, the current overall prevalence rate of hyperuricemia in China is 13.3%, the number of patients is about 177 million, the overall incidence rate of gout is 1.1%, and the number of patients is about 14.66 million. In recent years, the prevalence of hyperuricemia and gout has continued to increase, and has shown a trend of younger people. Based on online user research, young hyperuricemia and gout patients aged 18-35 account for 60%. Many living habits, such as eating seafood, excessive drinking, irregular diet, and other bad living habits further lead to the occurrence of high uric acid.

The increase in uric acid is resulted from the oxidation of excessive purines by xanthine oxidase and converted into uric acid in the human body. Studies have found that Quercetin 98% Extract Powder, Water Soluble Resveratrol 10%, 95% proanthocyanidins powder, and tart cherry extract can inhibit the activity of xanthine oxidase, reduce the level of oxidative stress, and improve hyperuricemia. The mechanism may be that these plant extractions reduce the production of blood uric acid by inhibiting the activity of xanthine oxidase and adenosine deaminase, thereby reducing the level of serum uric acid.

Lower uric acid levels

Hyperuricemia refers to the disorder of purine metabolism in the body, excessive secretion of uric acid or dysfunction of renal excretion, resulting in the accumulation of uric acid in the blood. Hyperuricemia can be the result of human body producing too much uric acid or excreting too little. The human body may produce too much uric acid when:

★ Eat a diet rich in purines. Foods high in purines include some offal, game, herring and several other types of seafood, and beer.

★ The body naturally produces too many purines.

★ A person is overweight, he/she is also at risk of developing hyperuricemia. In overweight children and adolescents, hyperuricemia is often gone with elements of the metabolic syndrome: hypertension, ichronic kidney disease, and insulin resistance.

Low Purine Diet Chart

Other ways to help manage high uric acid levels include:

★ Losing weight and staying healthy

★ Eating fewer foods and drinks high in purines can lower uric acid in the blood. This reduction helps the kidneys filter out uric acid more efficiently. Low-purine foods and beverages include: vegetables, fruits, nuts, dairy products, lean protein, and whole grains.

★ Avoiding sugar and alcohol

★ Drinking more water

★ Adding more fiber to dairy diets

★ Reducing stress
