Introduction
Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil is often referred to as cinnamon essential oil, cinnamon oil, and cinnamaldehyde oil. It can be extracted from the bark, stem, and leaves of cinnamon. Considering the cost of raw materials, the production of bulk cinnamon essential oil generally uses cinnamon sticks and cinnamon leaves with strong regenerative properties. There is also cinnamon extract oil derived from cinnamon bark, which has better quality and is more expensive.
Cinnamaldehyde is the main ingredient of cinnamon essential oil, also called 3-PHENYLPROPENAL, CINNAMICALDEHYDE, and TRANS-CINNAMALDEHYDE.
Frankly, our normal spec cinnamon essential oil is steam distilled from the dried branches and leaves of cinnamon, not the bark. The content of Cinnamaldehyde is about 75%, and it is a light yellow liquid at room temperature.

Why is There So Many Cheap Cinnamon Oil on the Market?
Because there is synthetic cinnamaldehyde on the market. The price of 98% synthetic cinnamaldehyde is around USD $5/kg. Some suppliers either directly use synthetic cinnamaldehyde instead of distilled cinnamon essential oil, or add synthetic cinnamaldehyde to the natural cinnamon extract oil to reduce costs.
How to Identify Natural Cinnamon Oil?
Not only synthetic cinnamaldehyde, but also rosin, fatty oil, alcohol, and kerosene on the market are often mixed with cinnamon oil. To detect whether Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil is adulterated, the professional method is to use gas chromatograph (GC) or C14 detection for analysis. In the absence of detection conditions, the following simple methods can be used:
1. Add a few drops of cinnamon oil to a glass of water, stirring constantly, there should be no film on the surface of the water.
2. Drop a drop of cinnamon oil on a piece of white paper, then heat and bake to evaporate the cinnamon oil. After evaporation, there should be no oil stains or other dirt on the paper surface.
