Market condition of allulose
In 2015, allulose was approved by the FDA for use in baked goods, candies, sweet sauces, dairy products, ice cream, desserts, beverages, and other products. Therefore, it belongs to "added sugar" and needs to be counted as carbohydrates and total sugars, so it cannot be used as a "low-calorie sweetener" like other sweeteners.

In 2019, allulose ushered in the spring. The FDA announced that the low-calorie sweetener allulose sugar will be excluded from the labels of "added sugars" and "total sugars". Since then, it is no longer necessary to calculate its added amount in these two categories. At the same time, the calories of allulose were set at 0.4kcal/g. This policy has justified the identity of allulose as a "natural low-calorie sweetener". Many ingredient companies began to increase the production of allulose, and new food and beverage products on the US market also began to use allulose on a large scale. In North America, the number of new products containing allulose tripled in 2020 compared to 2019.
